Iowa State Fair Sew-In Seeks Donations, Volunteers

  The Iowa State Fair Fabric and Threads Department is seeking fabric donations and volunteers for the third annual State Fair Sew-In. The free program offers Fairgoers a chance to try their hand at simple sewing and quilting while providing warm blankets to local children in need. "Nothing Compares" to the Iowa State Fair, set August 11-21.

July 1 Marks Deadline for State Fair Competitions, Parade Entries

  Friday is the deadline to enter the Iowa State Fair parade and many of the Fair's competitive events - late applications will be accepted with an additional late fee. "Nothing Compares" to the Iowa State Fair, August 11-21. Premium books and entry forms can be accessed atwww.iowastatefair.org/competition/categories. Entrants in competitive events may enter online or may submit their entry by mail.

New Print At Home Option Adds Convenience to buy State Fair Tickets

  Save up to 30% off Iowa State Fair gate admission with advance admission tickets, on sale now through August 10. The 2011 Fair is August 11-21. Adult admission tickets are just $7 in advance (regularly $10), and children's admission is only $3 in advance (regularly $4). Children 5 and under are admitted free every day. Tickets are good any one Fair day.

Palace in the Park takes place July 8 with 'Mall Cop' on outdoor screen

  Palace in the Park will be held Friday, July 8, at Riverside Park.  There will be games and activities for the whole family before the movie starts and it is all FREE.  The movie will be Paul Blart: Mall Cop and will be watched on a big screen at dark.  The movie is rated PG and stars Kevin James, Jayma Mays, and Keir O’Donnell.

Benefit Auction to preserve the Spencer Grove Church

On Saturday June 25, 10:30 AM, at the Spencer Grove Church, 4 Miles West of Walker, Iowa, there will be a Benefit Auction to Help Preserve this Historical Landmark. The Church has no regular service or congregation but has been kept up by a group of local citizens. In recent years they have replaced the foundation and last year put on a new roof of a cost  around $20,000.
